“An observant reaction officer was patrolling near the King Edward Hospital when he spotted a man carrying a new bar fridge which was still wrapped in plastic,” Blue Security tactical ambassador, Darrel Moodley said.
“He immediately radioed for backup but when he and other members of the unit confronted the suspect he dropped the fridge and fled on foot. The officers gave chase the suspect eluded arrest and could not be located. It is unclear where the theft of the bar fridge occurred. The appliance has been handed over to Umbilo SAPS for further investigation,” he said.
In a separate incident this week a number of items, which were recovered during routine patrols in bush in Westville, were linked to a burglary nearby.
Blue Security’s Andre Engels said the control centre had been contacted by manager of the Westville Municipal Parks department who confirmed that the recovered property had been removed from its premises during a break in.
“It was established that entry had been gained through the roof into multiple areas inside the building, where various items had been taken. The items discovered in the bush two days earlier were identified by the manager as belonging to the Parks Department. Investigations are continuing,” Engels said.
