R50 flea market in Glenwood garners funds for local charity

The Port Natal Citadel hosted its R50 market on Saturday, March 5 where all items on sale were priced under R50.

IN a world waging war and petrol prices about to take a ninety-degree hike, the little R50 community-building market held at the Port Natal Citadel on Saturday, March 5, 2022, brought a lovely reprieve to the current economic grid with quality coffee, home-baked treats, and a plethora of heart grown and preloved items for sale.

According to Citadel Market co-ordinator Karen Brokensha, an estimated 135 people walked through the doors to support iThemba Lethu (transition home for vulnerable babies and children).  The market hosted 20 traders whose stalls sold items such as handmade gifts and packaging, jams, wall décor, types of vinyl, Barbie doll clothing, plants, flowers, books, preloved homeware.

“A trio band from the Oasis Youth from Citygate Church kept the vibe going in the hall. There was also lots of fun for children with the ball games and basketball hoops,” said Brokensha.

Karen Brokensha, and Citygate Church administrator Melany Dallas echoed the same sentiment “It is so wonderful to see a community coming together to support one another.” They said they hope to host this kind of market once a month.

Port Natal Citadel/Citygate Church is located at 455 Esther Roberts, Glenwood.
