School comp winner gives back with bread donation

This youngster could not have been more selfless with the R300 voucher he won.

‘SHOWING the loaf’ is what Nikhil Ratanjee, a St Henry’s Marist College learner did when he purchased bread for charity recently.

Nikhil recently appeared in Berea Mail as the quarterly SPAR STAR winner. For the competition, we feature learners and their achievements once a month before opening the floor to the community to vote for a winner.

Nikhil, who was nominated for his achievement on the running track, won a R300 SPAR gift voucher.

He was the first runner from his running club, Durban Athletics Club, to cross the finish line at the Stella Royal Race held recently in Durban. Nikhil ran the 10km race in a time of 57:50. He was followed by his uncle Atish at 58:05 and father Mahesh in third position at 59:08.

The kind-hearted learner decided to use this voucher to give back to charity and bought 24 loaves of bread for his school’s Wednesday bread collection for The Sisters of Charity.

“This is an amazing gesture of kindness and generosity. Thank you, Nikhil, for being a true Marist,” said the school of the heart-warming gesture.
