Impressive purse at Women’s Day race

In Durban, the race start is at 08:00 on Masabalala Yengwa Avenue, and runners will cross the finish line at Kings Park Athletics track.

THIS year, the Totalsports Women’s Race boasts a combined prize purse of R155 550. The race will take place in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg on National Women’s Day, Tuesday August 9.

In Durban, the race start is at 08:00 on Masabalala Yengwa Avenue, and runners will cross the finish line at Kings Park Athletics Track.

According to Michael Meyer, managing director of Stillwater Sports, the R155 550 purse will be divided between the three cities with a purse of R51 850 in each city.

“Prize money will be allocated to the top ten finishers in the Open and Junior Categories with the Open Winner taking home R12 500 and the Junior Winner R2 500. We are also excited to offer prize money to the first three finishers in the 40 – 49 category, 50 – 59 category, 60 – 69 category and 70+ category. We trust that the prize money will be the cherry on the cake for these runners with the main focus being on celebrating National Women’s Day with thousands of women nationwide,” he said.

The Totalsports Women’s Race supports PinkDrive, a non-profit company (NPC) dedicated to raising breast cancer awareness and education, and providing free services to the medically uninsured across South Africa. PinkDrive will be present at the Totalsports Women’s Race in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, offering free clinical breast examinations and educating on the importance of self-breast examinations.
