Nourishing the Comrades nation

Find out what the refreshment stations, that will be strategically set up along the 89.885km route for the duration of the Comrades Marathon, will offer.

IN less than three weeks, close to 16 000 athletes will tackle the 95th Comrades Marathon, starting at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall and finishing 12 hours later at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Along the 89.885km route, stations comprising a variety of nourishing drinks, fruit and potatoes will be strategically set up.

While runners make their last minute preparations, the organising committee of The Ultimate Human Race are also busy sorting out the logistics that come with ensuring the refreshment stations are well-stocked – 43 of them to be exact.

Along the route, refreshment stations will stock the following:

Coke: ​30 350 litres

Fanta/Crème Soda: ​10,650 litres

Coke paper cups (175ml): ​450 000

Thirsti Water sachets: ​1.9 million

Isofit sports drink sachets: ​475 000

Asemzansi Amahewu: ​45 000

Bavaria 0.0% Beer: 10 000 x 150ml cans 

Cooked potatoes: ​1 ton

Bananas: ​9 tons

Oranges: ​4.5 tons

 “We have ensured that all 43 refreshment stations are adequately stocked with various refreshments for our runners’ sustenance from start to finish on Sunday, August 28. We wish all runners well as they wrap up their preparations for race day. The Comrades Marathon has returned. Sishay’ibuya!”  said CMA Race Director, Rowyn James.
