ANC president addresses crowd at Moses Mabhida Stadium
The ruling party, African National Congress (ANC) launches their manifesto at Moses Mabhida.

THE city of Durban is painted in yellow, green and black as the members of the African National Congress (ANC) descended from different parts of the country to hear the President speak.
The long anticipated Mayihlome Rally where the ANC launched their election manifesto was held on Saturday February 24 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. This comes a few days after May 29 was announced as the official election day.

Building up to the elections, Durban has seen several manifesto launches including that of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in the past few weeks.
Launching the manifesto of the ANC, President Cyril Ramaphosa said the party is looking forward to the elections as he outlined the parties six priorities heading to the elections.
“In the past week, we joined hands with our activists and volunteers on the ground here in KZN to work for a new mandate in the forthcoming elections so we can continue the work we began 30 years ago,” stated Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa said that fighting the cost of living forms part of their six priorities.
“We will take steps to make everyday life more affordable for workers, the unemployed, and the middle class by addressing key needs like food, housing, healthcare, and energy and wages.
“We will prioritise food security, including VAT exemption on essential items, support for community and home gardens, and act against price fixing in all sectors,” said the president.

Other priorities include job creation, achieving an inclusive economy, investing in people, building a better Africa and world, defending democracy and advancing freedom.
The president encouraged South Africans to show up at their respective voting stations to make their mark.
