Denis Hurley Centre still on the lookout for new spots

StreeLit an initiative run by the Denis Hurley Centre for marginalised people to earn an income, is still looking for new spots to sell their books.

SPOTTED at the Durban Botanical Gardens was Mpilonhle Sithole, a young man who is part of StreetLit Books, an organisation run by the Denis Hurley Centre for homeless men.

Sithole patiently explained about the books he had on sale and their prices while the Amazulu Football Club eagerly supported his organisation and bought some books. The Denis Hurley Centre is a non-government organisation based in Durban that cares for the city’s marginalised.

The organisation runs the StreetLit initiative to assist men and women to earn a basic income through selling good second-hand donated books at various venues around Durban. Vendors can be found at Pick ’n Pay Hyper by the Sea on weekends as well as at the Durban Botanic Gardens, Berea Centre, KZNSA Art Gallery, at the municipal satellite-container library alongside the Workshop and The Denis Hurley Centre in Durban.

The StreetLit vendors are also looking for more places to sell their books. Community members who would like to
donate books, and business owners interested in offering the vendors a space to set up their books, can contact Illa Thompson via books@denishurleycentre.co.za. Look out for their bright lime-green branding.
