Denis Hurley Centre ready to serve Meal of Reconciliation

Since the Day of Reconciliation in 2015, the Denis Hurley Centre has been giving residents of Durban an annual chance to share a meal together. The Meal of Reconciliation will again this year feed hundreds of people, with the aid of Good Samaritans.

DENIS Hurley Centre’s (DHC) popular annual Meal of Reconciliation will take place on Monday, December 16 at 11:00. As always, this is a chance for Durbanites of all backgrounds to come together and share a meal.

Denis Hurley Centre director Raymond Perrier said, “This year’s will be very special since it will be almost exactly 10 years to the day since we moved into our building. So plan to come and join us and bring cool drinks or cake to share.

“We are considering providing a park-and-ride service from Greyville but we need to gauge numbers. If this is something that you would use on that day please email us.”

DHC is also looking for volunteers to enable them to provide meals across the festive season. Volunteers are needed especially on December 21 to 31 and January 1 and 2.

“We are also keen to hear from families who want to donate cool drinks that we can use over the season to make our meals a bit more special. And if you are struggling for a Christmas gift for someone, especially if they are far away, consider making a donation in their name for our festive meal programme. This is a great way to show that you care and does not add to the piles of unwanted gifts that clutter our lives in January! We will agree the amount with you and design a personalised card that you can send on to your loved one,” said Perrier.
