IEBs excel in NSC exams, breaking five-year barrier
The future looks bright for the Class of 2024 as they head into higher education to complete their studies in various fields. This cohort of IEB matriculants achieved a 98.4% pass rate, the highest in five years.
CURRO Heritage House in Morningside has a lot to celebrate after receiving a clean sheet with a 100% pass rate that left both learners and educators jumping for joy as they opened their results from the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations on Monday.
The school obtained 70 subject distinctions and 100 subject B aggregates from the 55 learners that sat for the 2024 matric examinations. Curro’s top matriculants, Hema Doorgapershad and Antara Moodley, said they were pleased with their results and look forward to the future.

“I’m really proud of myself, I got six distinctions,” said Doorgapershad. “In the end we all pulled through and got a 100% pass. I am looking forward to the future and to my time at the University of Pretoria where I will be studying veterinary science.,” added Doorgapershad.
Fellow matriculant with five distinctions, Moodley said her final year of high school was a stressful one with a number of challenges that she needed to overcome. I’m feeling excited and happy, we can finally relax. “I’m glad that I made myself and my family proud. I now must decide whether I am going to the University of Cape Town or the University of Pretoria to study civil engineering,” said Moodley.

It was the same for the matriculants of Maris Stella School who gathered at the hall to receive their final high school results which led to the school achieving a 100% pass rate. Their top matriculant is Nicole William who obtained eight distinctions, followed by Chloë du Plessis, Arianna John, and Vicky Kruse with seven distinctions each.

The Maris Stella Class of 2024 further excelled, with Rachel Rabie, Tanith Tiltman, and Yanga Ndlovu earning themselves six distinctions while Paige De Bruin, Thasmeera Govender, Catherine Ndhlovu and Phokuhle Kweyama obtained five distinctions, respectively. Not to be outdone, Simran Chetty, Rebekah Fleischer, Allegra Jones, Natasha Kawalya, Julia McAlister, Laranya Naidoo, and Mia Vlotman all achieved four distinctions each. Collectively, they contributed to the IEB pass rate rising to 98.4% in the NSC examinations, the highest pass rate recorded in the past five years.
