Berea SAPS officers honoured for sterling service

To show appreciation for unwavering service rendered, Berea SAPS management honoured its current and retired members. The "long-overdue" ceremony was given a nod by the provincial and national offices.

BEREA SAPS held their ‘long overdue’ Medal Parade at Burman Bush on Friday, honouring more than 40 members of the station, as well as those who had retired.
The members received medals for their service ranging from 10 to 20 years and were hailed for their dedication and sterling commitment to the cause.

Berea Station Commander, Colonel Hlengiwe Gcabashe, shared that the day was special and long overdue. “Honouring our members serves as a motivation to work even harder. It is an acknowledgement by the SAPS management, who recognised the commitment and hard work poured in by fellow members over the years.

“We commend them for service of protecting the community and we urge them to keep up the good, yet challenging work they do. The hand of gratitude is also extended to those members who have retired after serving decades within our station. We also appreciate the support we have received from our provincial and national offices,” added Gcabashe.

“It was a day of pride and happiness where members felt recognised and honoured for the faithful service given to the SAPS organisation. We thank all our sponsors, business community and partners who made the day a success,” said Captain Poobalan Naidoo, Berea SAPS spokesperson.
The medal ceremony was the first of its kind and the tradition will be observed every year moving forward.
