Informal traders to enjoy customer-friendly spaces in Durban

As part of these ongoing investments, the eThekwini Municipality has announced available trading stalls, kiosks, and storage spaces across various eThekwini regions, in an effort to encourage competitive trading among small businesses.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has announced that it has continued to make significant investments to support informal traders, focusing on improving working conditions, providing access to growth opportunities, and providing technical training and other essential business support.

According to the City’s spokesperson, Gugu Sisilana, “There are several available stalls in the Central Business District (CBD), with additional spaces in southern Durban, the inner and outer west, coastal areas, and northern areas. The trading spaces are a key part of the City’s ongoing initiative involving the development of better infrastructure, ensuring that informal traders have access to dignified and customer-friendly spaces.”

Chairperson of the City’s Economic Development and Planning Committee, councillor Thembo Ntuli, said, “The goal of these investments is to foster a competitive business environment that promotes growth, stability, and sustainability. We are focused not only on providing livelihoods but also on empowering and building a sustainable informal economy sector. This sector is known for its massive contribution to job creation and boosting economic growth.”
