TAFTA golf day fundraiser ready to tee-off

Tee-off for a good cause with Tafta on May 8, at the Cotswold Downs Golf and Country Estate, as they raise funds to continue their work in caring for the elderly. Funds raised at Tafta’s 2025 Golf Day will aid in their initiatives such as the meal delivery service.

CARING for the elderly within our community is something that the Durban-based non-profit organisation The Association for The Aged (TAFTA) does so effortlessly, with the help of generous donors and sponsors.

The organisation recently hosted an appreciation function at their TAFTA on Ridge facility in Overport, to show gratitude to supporters for their ongoing generosity. “Your support helps us to shape the future where older people feel valued, loved, cared for and; more importantly, where they feel safe,” said TAFTA CEO Femada Shamam. “Your generosity fuels our ability to dream, innovate and reach further than we have ever done before. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you for all that you do.”

This year, the organisation marks 67 years of providing care and support services to the elderly. To be able to continue with their services and funding the day-to-day running of the organisation, TAFTA will be hosting a golf day fundraiser on Thursday, May 8, at the Cotswold Downs Golf and Country Estate.

Shamam said, “As we commemorate our 67th year of advocating for the rights of older people and shaping an age-friendly world, we hope that the community will be inspired to put social responsibility into action and support the needs of older people through participation at our upcoming golf day.”

The funds raised will go towards their many initiatives including their Meal Delivery Service. Shamam said in 2024, TAFTA delivered 11 561 freshly cooked meals to older people in Durban who either find cooking for themselves difficult, or too costly on their limited income of the state pension. She explained that the R5000 fee for a 4-ball team to participate includes green fees, halfway meals, dinner, a prize giving event and the subsidisation of meals to continue the delivery service.

“Those who are not golfers but would still like to support this worthy cause, can consider sponsoring a tee at a cost of R1800 and still enjoy a great day of networking and marketing your business or products, or even sponsoring a 4-ball prize toward the success of the event,” said Shamam.
