‘eThekwini remains in good financial standing’

Despite escalating voices from the residents and ratepayers of eThekwini on service delivery, the City Manager has reassured all stakeholders that the City is in a healthy financial position, and it remains one of the best performing metros in the country.

WITH the backing of international rating agencies, who have rated eThekwini as the highest performing municipality on financial management among the eight Metros in the country, the City of eThekwini reportedly remains in good financial standing.
This was the firm reassurance from eThekwini City Manager Musa Mbhele this week.

“We also maintain a healthy revenue collection rate of 93% and continue to receive unqualified audit opinions from the Auditor-General,” said Mbhele.

Mbhele opened the engagement by reaffirming the City’s mission to maintain transparency and consistent communication with its constituencies and stakeholders, including residents and the media.

“It is important for us to regularly engage with residents, so that we can share the strides our beautiful city is making, particularly on the development and service delivery front,” added Mbhele.

He concluded that eThekwini was the highest ranked municipality among the eight metropolitan municipalities.
“We are also ensuring that the public realm is well taken care of, with clean and well-maintained spaces throughout the city,” he said.
