Pedestrian killed, 13 injured in Umgeni Road horror crash

A crash near Moses Mabhida Stadium has left one pedestrian dead and 13 other people injured. The chaotic scene involved taxis, a car, a motorbike, and a pedestrian. Umgeni Road is currently closed.

A MAN believed to be in his 40s was killed and 13 others injured in a multi-vehicle accident this morning on Umgeni Road near Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

The fatal incident occurred around 09:00, involving two taxis, a vehicle, a biker and a pedestrian. ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said they arrived on scene “to find chaos and carnage” with multiple people injured.

He said, “A total of 13 people had sustained various injuries ranging from moderate to serious and once stabilised on scene by multiple ALS Paramedics they were transported to various Durban hospitals for the further care that they required.

“One male pedestrian believed to be in his 40s had sustained fatal injuries and unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene.”

Jamieson said that Umgeni Road was closed in both directions to allow emergency personnel to clear the scene. “At this stage the events leading up to the crash are unknown, however SAPS were in attendance and will investigate further,” he added.
