Durban aims to ride global wave at AI summit

Durban is bracing itself to host the first-ever Artificial Intelligence (AI) summit, boasting local and international delegates and experts. The gathering will explore how AI is transforming industries, shaping smart cities, and creating new opportunities in agriculture, finance, education, gaming, retail, real estate, and beyond.

THE province of KwaZulu-Natal is not to be left behind in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) wave, as the city of Durban hosts the first-ever KZN AI Summit 2025 next month.

Hosted by the KZN AI Foundation, the summit aims to align local industry players with their global counterparts in a variety of sectors. The event will be driven by the theme: Unlocking and Connecting the Brightest Minds in AI.

“The country’s brightest minds will connect leaders in government, academia, and business in a bold move to align the province with its counterparts in the AI world. This summit is going to be revolutionary, whose mission is to ensure that KwaZulu-Natal is not lagging in the AI race, alongside Gauteng and Cape Town. It’s a powerful initiative that has the potential to position KZN as the third major AI hub in South Africa,” said Sandile Ngema, deputy chairperson of the KZN AI Foundation.

Delegates can expect keynote speakers, expert panels, live demonstrations, clarity sessions, and networking with innovators from across the country. Topics to be covered include AI Policy and Governance, Regulating AI in South Africa, Smart Cities and Municipal AI, Academic Institutions’ AI Revolution, and Start-Up Opportunities.

The organisers said, “In response to overwhelming interest and to accommodate key international delegates, this adjustment ensures a richer, more inclusive experience for all attendees. The KZN AI Foundation remains committed to delivering a world-class summit that reflects the province’s leadership in ethical innovation and digital transformation.”
