The City of eThekwini has warned the public to disregard the contents of a fake advertisement circulated on social media which claims that the municipality is launching a Debt Relief Programme.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has revealed that an advertisement has been circulating on social media regarding an eThekwini Municipality Debt Relief Programme purported to commence on November 1.

The City’s spokesperson Gugu Sisilana warned, “This information is incorrect and constitutes fake news. Do not fall victim to misinformation, and always verify all details through official municipal platforms.

“The Revenue Management Directorate, which is responsible for developing and implementing the City’s Debt Relief Programme, distances itself from this fake advert. All municipal programmes are first submitted to the eThekwini Municipality Council for discussion and approval.
