SA Legion launches annual poppy appeal
Support the annual Poppy Appeal this November, honouring veterans and fallen heroes through donations that fund vital welfare programmes.
WHEN you see a South African Legion volunteer this November, wearing their green blazer and offering you a bright red poppy, please give generously.
That is the appeal being made by the SA Legion during the month of remembrance which will culminate with Poppy Day on November 11, when South Africans once again pause to remember the men and women who served their country with courage and sacrifice.
In a run-up to this day and throughout November, members of the South African Legion will be out and about across Durban and the North Coast, collecting donations at shopping centres and community venues to honour the fallen.
“Your contribution helps uphold the promise that we will never forget those who stood for freedom – and that we will continue to care for those who returned,” said the Legion.

The North Coast Branch will hold collection days on November 8 and 15. The Legion said that every poppy worn and every coin dropped into the tin will help ensure that the veterans’ sacrifices are never forgotten.

Funds from the Poppy Appeal go directly toward supporting former servicemen and women and their families by helping with housing, medical needs, and welfare assistance. “Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference,” said the Legion. “When you wear a poppy, you’re not only remembering the fallen, you’re standing with those who served, right here and now.”
In South Africa, this vital work is co-ordinated by the South African Legion of Military Veterans (SAL), a charitable organisation with a proud history of supporting former servicemen and women from all walks of life.
Founded in 1921, the South African Legion of Military Veterans is the country’s oldest veterans’ organisation and continues to promote remembrance, camaraderie, and care for those who have served.
