Decluttered pantries make way for looming shopping frenzy
Get your home ready with expert tips on decluttering and organising your pantry before the bulk shopping season begins.
IT is that time of the year when bulk shopping will be the norm. During this time experts advise on decluttering pantries, wardrobes, and cupboards before restocking. Out with the old, in with the new, they say. It is said that the best way to declutter a pantry before restocking is to empty all items, discard expired or unwanted goods, donate unopened non-perishables, and then clean the shelves.
Dietician Sonal Ratan shares a few simple steps to refresh this busy space. Her practical approach shows how repurposing containers, checking expiry dates, and grouping everyday staples can save money, reduce frustration, and make meal prep far more enjoyable — while subtly nudging families towards healthier choices.

When preparing to restock, experts advise making an inventory by creating a list of what to buy to avoid purchasing duplicates.
“Transfer dry items like rice, pasta and cereal into clear containers, to easily see what is available. Wash new and existing containers before filling them, also consider using baskets or other organisers to maximise space.”
“We often underestimate how much food goes to waste due to poor storage,” added Ratan. “A tidy, well-structured pantry creates a sense of order and makes meal preparation more enjoyable. It also helps save money by preventing overbuying or duplicate purchases and avoiding the frustration of running out of an item mid-recipe.”
