Sherwood Primary rallies for Highway Hospice

A powerful act of compassion saw Sherwood Primary hand over R21 000 to Highway Hospice to aid their essential care work.

THE community spirit of Sherwood Primary School shone brightly as learners and staff came together to hand over funds raised for the Highway Hospice recently.

Principal Dean Unger announced that the school had raised an impressive R21 000 to support the hospice in its work of caring for the elderly and those in need of palliative care. “Well done to you,” Unger said as he presented a certificate of appreciation to Highway Hospice CEO John’o Olds and Head of Fundraising Lisette Abell.

The certificate was formally handed over by educators Tasmiyan Dhanraj and Tyrone Kisten. “Mr Kisten recently battled cancer, and it felt fitting that he and Miss Dhanraj present the certificate,” Unger added.

Addressing Olds and Abell, Unger said, “This certificate is an appreciation for who you are and what you do in the community. We appreciate you very much.”

Accepting the donation, Abell said the funds would go a long way in helping the hospice continue its essential work. “We care for people who are unwell and unable to care for themselves. We aim to make them feel comfortable and supported in their time of need,” she said.

“Your contribution helps reduce their suffering. To all the learners, staff, and facilitators, thank you. You are number one, and we are truly grateful.”
