Local practitioner advises to embrace new normal

As the remnants of 2025 pass, a question arises, "When was the last time you made time for you?"

THE year 2025 is folding, and one local health practitioner prescibes that peole must “stop and think”.

Dr Eubulus Timothy, a healthy practitioner and renowned filmmaker, observed that people have invested their time and energy in others, ignoring themselves.

“When was the last time you were just with you, not your work, your partner, children, parents, annoying friends? Just time for you? When last you sat at a coffee shop on your own. Just you alone reading?

“When was the last time you danced crazily. Screamed out loud? They always tell you on airplanes to first put on your own oxygen mask before helping others. When did you last put your oxygen mask on?” Timothy asks.

He shares some of the tools he uses:

*Rest your body. Get enough sleep. Your body needs a minimum of eight hours of sleeps. That’s when your brain does all the housekeeping.

* Take slow, deep breaths – It helps you readjust your rhythm

*Soak in a warm bath

*Refocus your soul

*Get organised – remove the clutter. You know what you need to get rid off.

*Eat a healthy diet

* Exercise regularly. (Pilates)

*Restore your spirit

*Surround yourself with art, music and beauty – we are the only species in the known universe that has the ability to create music, art, architecture, medicine, science, beauty, because we can. Listen to music, learn to play an instrument.

*Write down your thoughts – it keeps you focused. Save it or burn it. It doesn’t matter.

*And finally, smile! When you smile, your brain automatically continues smiling and releases feel good endorphins, which act as natural painkillers decreasing stress-enhancing hormones, including cortisol, and adrenaline.

“When you smile at someone, if they smile back,  immediately their brain takes over. We may never know what they are going through. Maybe a smile was all they needed. And you too feel much better,” he concluded.

In 2026 make time for you.
