Fifteen-year-old appeals for donations for cancer treatment

Fifteen-year-old Hayley Jackson and her family are appealing for donations so she can get a lifesaving operation that she desperately needs in her fight against Ewing sarcoma.

GLENWOOD resident Hayley Jackson and her family are appealing for assistance in the form of monetary donations to help the 15-year-old receive the life-saving treatment needed to help her in her fight against Ewing sarcoma, which the Grade 10 school learner was diagnosed with last year.

Diagnosed on October 17, 2023, after experiencing pain in her left hip, Hayley has been courageously enduring bi-weekly chemotherapy sessions, completing seven out of 14 rounds to date. Ewing sarcoma, a ruthless cancer that often targets children and young adults, has thrown her into a challenging journey of strength and resilience.

The news shattered Hayley’s family, leaving them speechless and in tears. Now, as she approaches a life-saving operation in April to remove her tumour and repair her pelvis by using part of her tibia, the financial burden is overwhelming. They’re in desperate need of funds to make this crucial operation possible. Hayley’s surgery will be done in Cape Town, and she will need to stay in Cape Town for the duration of the surgery and recovery – this has a massive financial impact on her family.

“Your support, whether big or small, can make a significant impact. Every donation brings us one step closer to securing the treatment she needs,” said the family’s spokesperson and Hayley’s aunt, Kyla Jackson.

“Hayley is not just a fighter; she’s a talented artist, an avid reader, a passionate baker and a fearless longboarder, who loves life and her eight-year-old little sister, Ashley,” said Kyla.
