Class of 2024 concludes exam period
The Class of 2024 will have to wait until January 15, 2025, to find out the outcome of their exam results with marking set to proceed from December 1 until December 10.
A TOTAL of 9 390 markers have been employed by the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Education to oversee the marking of examination papers for the Class of 2024 following the conclusion of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams today (November 28).
KZN registered 190 452 candidates to sit for the NSC exams, which began on October 21, of which 172 433 were full-time and 18 019 were part-time. Department spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi said that marking will be undertaken at 32 centres in the province. “Marking will begin on December 1 and conclude by December 10, with marking centres officially closing on December 18, following the return of scripts to district storage facilities,” said Mahlambi.
The MEC for Education, Sipho Hlomuka, expressed satisfaction with the seamless administration and successful conclusion of the matric exams. He said, “We are pleased to announce that the 2024 National Senior Certificate examinations were conducted without any irregularities or leaks, maintaining its credibility and integrity. We are ecstatic that the examination process concluded smoothly and without disruptions,” said Hlomuka.

Across the country, the Class of 2024 amounted to 732 448 full-time and 136 195 part-time candidates, surpassing last year’s enrolment by 8 400. The examinations took place in 6 909 centres across the nine provinces. A total of 162 question papers were approved by Umalusi for printing. The results will be out in 2025. The Minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube, will announce the results on January 15, 2025, with the results released to candidates the day after, on January 16.
