Nominations open for first-ever Runner Awards
The Runner Awards will take place on November 1 at the Olive Convention Centre and the public has until September 26 to nominate their favourites in the running industry.
GET your nominations in, because South Africa’s first Runner Awards are sprinting closer. The inaugural awards take place at Durban’s Olive Convention Centre on November 1, and the public has until September 26 to back their favourites.
From the best races and clubs to coaches, influencers and those everyday runners who make it all look easy, the awards will shine a spotlight on the people who keep SA’s running scene buzzing.
Founder Syanda Sibiya says it’s about time runners got their own stage: “The everyday runners who embody the spirit of perseverance deserve to be celebrated on a grand stage. The Runner Awards is built to be that stage.”

And the timing couldn’t be better, Durban has seen a massive uptake in running, with more people lacing up for local races and even taking on giants like the Comrades Marathon. The city’s streets are alive with runners, from early-morning joggers to seasoned athletes.
Sibiya said the awards will be no ordinary awards night; think green carpet arrivals, celebs in the crowd, top-notch entertainment, and a cool R3000 cash prize for every category winner. There are 12 categories up for grabs, including Race of the Year, Race Route of the Year, Running Coach of the Year and Best Running Influencer / Promoter.
Plus, a few secret awards (like International Achievement of the Year and Lifetime Achievement) will be handed out by the judges on the night.
