TWO Grade Nine learners from Eden College Durban, Hanna Chengiah and Misa van Niekerk, delivered outstanding performances with their teams at a recent gymnastics competition in Kempton Park, Johannesburg.

“Their intricate routines and consistent execution have secured them qualification within their respective age groups and disciplines to represent South Africa at the prestigious African Championships 2026. This continental event will bring together some of Africa’s most talented gymnasts, each representing their nation in a celebration of athletic excellence, precision, and dedication.

Both athletes are members of Glenwood Gymnastics Club, where their journey has been shaped through rigorous training, discipline, and unwavering commitment. Their success is a direct reflection of the countless hours invested in honing their skills, as well as the support of their coaches and broader team. In recognition of this accomplishment, Hanna and Misa have earned their Protea Colours, one of the highest honours in South African sport.

The 2026 African Gymnastics Championships will feature separate events for different disciplines, with the 19th Artistic Gymnastics African Championships to be held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, from April 23–26, and the Rhythmic/Trampoline Championships in Tshwane from April 30 to May 2.
