Taxi chaos at Blue Lagoon
A week after receiving no response from Metro Police, a reader writes an open letter to Senior Superintendent Eugene Msomi in the hopes of getting a response or apology for the taxi's that have parked off at Blue Lagoon creating chaos over the past three weekends.
EDITOR- This letter is directed at Senior Superintendent Eugene Msomi
It is 6:26am and I have had barely three hours of sleep. I wrote to you last week about the problem with the taxi’s at Blue Lagoon – the email forwarded to you is below – but you did not reply to me. You did, however, respond to the media with an apology for the noise caused by the taxis you instructed to park at Blue Lagoon saying that you were “unprepared” for the situation. However, this is now the third consecutive weekend that we have not been able to sleep, so what is the reason for last night and Thursday night’s ongoing noise? Are you still unprepared to handle the situation?
I called Metro Police at midnight, 12:30am and 1am to attend to the ongoing loud music at Blue Lagoon. I was told that your officers had attended to the call, however the noise did not subside and only got steadily worse as the hours dragged into 2am and 3am. I awoke again at 5am to that droning base music sound and shouting.
Mr Msomi – have you ever stopped at a robot and had a taxi pull up behind you with its music blaring with that deep droning base? You must be familiar with that annoying sound. Well, that is what we are subjected to without stop day and night throughout the weekend because you have invited the taxis to now park at Blue Lagoon. It appears you do not care what the surrounding residents are having to live through as a result because firstly, you have never replied to my emails and secondly, despite apologising this week via the media nothing was done to ensure that we got some peace and quiet this weekend.
What are we expected to do to make this stop? I am a single mother living with my son – should I then at 1am get in my car and drive over to Blue Lagoon and confront the taxis on my own if you are not going to help me? What choices do I have in this situation other than to implore you for help – yet it is falling on deaf ears?
Does anyone care? We are taking as much action as possible from our side to bring this matter to your attention – what is the next step because public apologies avail nothing.
All I want is my right to a night of sleep in peace and quiet, especially within the law abiding times where noise is not permitted.
Once again, I anxiously await a response – any response – from you.
