Law cannot be applied selectively

Reader, Tony Ball, raises the question of bylaws and their selective application by authorities.

EDITOR – Reading through the bylaws it is quite clear that the vagrants sleeping on the pavements and begging, littering, urinating etc are “committing an offence”.

My question is why no action is being taken which then begs the next question – why are motorists targeted for speeding, parking illegally since laws cannot be applied selectively.

This morning at 7.05 am I woke up three vagrants outside the Antique shop in Bulwer Road and after seeing their venomous look I ensured that I looked over my shoulder as I made my way back to the garage. If the vagrants are immune from arrest then surely persons who chase them away (with whatever means) are equally immune or am I missing something

It beggars belief that the law breakers seem to have more rights than law abiding rate paying citizens.

Perhaps senior management in Metro Police can give me a formal response. Please not that it being a “social problem” is not acceptable.
