Addington Hospital trauma continues

A reader expresses his shock after sitting in the waiting room at Addington Hospital for eight hours.

EDITOR – You have not experienced life until you have sat in the trauma unit at Addington Hospital for the day.

I came here on Monday morning, 2 December with a young man with a badly broken arm. We are still sitting waiting to see a doctor. Whilst we are waiting patients have walked out, saying they are going to try another doctor or hospital.

One elderly man was wheeled into the waiting room with no left foot, the stump started bleeding. I went to ask for help from the reception desk on which I was told he must wait – they will see him “now”.

After quite some time I went to ask another medical person for help. I was given some gauze to give to the patient and still nobody came to look or even offer the man a bed to lie on. He had to wait on the metal chairs. Eventually he got up to seek help and the stump was wrapped in a bandage and he was sent back to the waiting room.

Surely government can look into upgrading the facilities after all, your health comes first and not everybody can afford medical aid.
