Builders are too noisy

Musgrave residents say builders begin their noisy work at 6am, even on Saturdays.

ONGOING noise from a building site in St Thomas Road, Musgrave, has neighbouring residents calling on authorities to do something to restore a semblance of peace to the suburb.

According to one of the affected residents who did not want to be named, builders started work at the site from 6am and made a lot of noise.

“There are a lot of elderly people living in the area and the noise made by the builders is ridiculous. The work even starts early on a Saturday morning,” she said. Also of concern to residents is the fact that there is no information board erected outside the site to say what was being built. She said plans for the building had also been challenged at a meeting with residents last year.

Ward councillor, Jethro Lefevre, said the building complied with all the necessary bylaws and that the plans had been passed and approved.

“Building from 6am, however, is not allowed. I have spoken to the developers, and was told that the builders would be consulted about this problem. Lefevre adding that the developers had said builders needed to pour concrete early, but that they would inform him when this was being done. “I will endeavour to get Metro Police to be there at the same time to ensure there is no noise,” he said.
