EDITOR – The New Year has seen a surge in the number of vagrants (who pose as car guards) collecting at the top of Helen Joseph (Davenport) Road.
Last year there were usually two youths hanging around, now there are between six and seven. These arrogant youths harass customers exiting Woolworths and in some instances harass customers in the shop demanding that some item be bought for them. If a client refuses he or she stands a good chance of their car being vandalised.
On behalf of the businesses in the area we request that customers at Woolworths do not fall into the trap of giving them food (which they sell to the first available person) or money as this is used to buy cigarettes, glue or alcohol.
As I Care will confirm, it is far more beneficial to donate to a formal charity where the goodwill is put to better use.
Alternatively if someone really feels sorry for them they could take them home for a meal, but I doubt that the goodwill extends that far.
