Councillors need to act

A reader is appalled by the filth under the Esplanade bridge.

EDITOR – I was horrified by the filth and people that sleep, eat and do everything else under the bridge on the Esplanade.

I had the unfortunate event of being in a car accident on Saturday and while I was at the police station I happened to ask one of the officers what was happening there. He advised me that the people there are foreigners that come to South Africa in hopes of finding jobs. They don’t have any money so they stay there.

He also said to please be careful when driving there as there are a lot of smash and grabs there and they are the people that are doing the petty crime in town, stealing handbags and so on. The officer advised that they can’t do anything as there is no law to say that they are not allowed to be there.

The ward councilors want our votes, but now we as the community want to know what is being done about this problem. The filth is terrible, it is unhygienic and very unsafe to drive there
