Telkom billing report nitpicks to the extreme

Telkom sure knows how to waste ink, says resident.

EDITOR – Do many other users of Telkom telephones receive monthly reports?

I have been getting them ever since I once questioned the amount on an account. My gratitude is great, but there is something that puzzles me, and it seems to me that there must be somebody “out there” who can explain it, since it occurs with monotonous regularity.

It is the fact that not only does the Telephony Usage Report give the time of occurrence of the call as, e.g. 15:37:19 (hour, minute, seconds) but it prints out the amount owed right down to the thousandth of a Rand! What is the thousandth of a Rand even called – is it a decicent? And what would I do if I owed one or two? Not that my accounts have ever had anything at that third decimal point, except for the amazing zero!

Apart from the enormous waste of ink in giving us those “third after decimal point 0s (naughty naughts)”, there is the strain on our brains of having to look at all those naughts! Especially as some of us make use of Call-More time, which is not “free” but “prepaid”. That means that we receive pages full of 0.000s!
