EDITOR – Your articles (Berea Mail 6 June) regarding Ms Lipschitz being forced to close her B&B, the loss of business in Gale Street and the derelict property in Somerset refer.
Without exception, the responsibility for all of those issues can be laid at the desk of the City Manager.
The policing of the entire Metro is so poorly managed, that no citizen who wishes to live a reasonably secure lifestyle can afford not to employ private security companies.
The Gale Street debacle should result in the owners of those properties being given a rate free year and the benefits passed on to the tenants. I recently left a lawn mower for repairs with the very reliable appliance repair man, Kay Rai, only to find it had been stolen by thieves taking advantage of the chaos in that street.
I took up the issue of former counsellor Arthur Bowles’ property in Somerset Avenue more than a year ago with the appropriate departments of eThekwini Metro and the then councillor Warwick Chapman without success. There is simply no will to enforce the by laws!
