We live in fear

A Berea resident wants to see more news of serious crimes in the newspaper.

EDITOR – Fellow readers of the Berea Mail and I are always complaining about these weekly crime updates by Berea SAPS.

There is so much serious crime around, but we get told of cellphone thefts, toilet paper theft, extension cord theft, an okapi knife recovered, a microwave oven, etc. There is even a photograph of a captain holding a kitchen sink that was recovered.

Make no mistake, we are grateful for any lawbreakers that are caught, and any possessions that are returned to their owners, but our serious and violent crime incidents are much more important to the citizens. We want to see police presence, violent offenders caught. Let's get serious. We are prisoners in our own home, and are too scared to leave them.

* The Berea Mail relies on the Berea SAPS for all information regarding crime in the area. We are only able to report on the information they supply. If residents or civic organisations wish to alert us to other crimes, they are free to contact Berea Mail and we will follow up with SAPS – Editor.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
