Let’s have a look at fine statistics

A resident feels a Metro Police officer has admitted the police can't cope with the influx of heavy duties in Umbilo.

EDITOR – I am writing in response to the letter Police are people too.

Firstly I wish to thank MR Govender for his sterling work and dedication, it is a pity that not all his colleagues are as committed as he is.

In response to his article I wish to express the following. Can we have the statistics of the number of fines handed out to trucks in the Umbilo area, in particular Teignmouth and Hillier Roads? Metro Police need not give up all of their time “chasing” trucks the whole day, simply deploy junior Metro Officials on foot patrol to monitor the illegal parking of trucks in residential areas. One only has to go to Southway Mall to observe Metro Police officials’ purchasing trolley’s full of groceries, we are not talking about a lunch time snack. I previously took a picture of a two female officials loading groceries into their police vehicle, it caused quite a commotion when they realised they were been photographed.

It is interesting to note the tone of MR Govender’s letter, he is basically admitting that Metro have their hands full and are currently unable to cope with the influx of the “heavy duties”- let us hope that the ward councillors can intervene.
