Currie Road mayhem

A resident feels something needs to be done to curb speeding in Currie Road.

EDITOR – Municipal and other companies, Mynah buses, mini bus taxis, heavy transportation trucks are using a very precarious stretch of road between St Thomas and Berea Roads.

Continuous honking of horns by buses as they ramble along close to midnight! Motorists are driving their vehicles so hard, trying (and achieving) extreme speeds. Accidents have becoming more of a reality – lock-up garages at the intersection of Povall and Currie Roads can attest to this, by being frequently wiped out as result of high speed collisions.

Vehicles (especially taxis) don’t even look right when approaching the stop street at the bottom of Povall Road, turning blindly into oncoming traffic going up towards St Thomas.

Durban Metro could make themselves an absolute financial boom if they were to put down speed traps. However the reality is it, as well as Musgrave Road, has been allowed to become a race track with the main difference that Currie Road is not meant to be a major road.

Time for the eThekwini to seriously investigate these transgressions and urgently address.
