Well done, Save Our Berea

A Glenwood residents feels the community should stand together and act against issues.

EDITOR – Heartiest congratulations to Save Our Berea (particularly one of its intrepid founders, Cheryl Johnson) on the judgement to have ‘the monstrosity’ in Currie Road dealt with (Berea Mail 3/7/15).

This ‘community centred’ approach must be supported by all ratepayers. Action not resignation, initiative not passivity. This must be our mantra.

Notwithstanding the developers stated intention to appeal, I hope that this ruling is not the last, and that other developers and city decision makers take note. It is also encouraging to see a full page spread featuring our Municipality’s Clamping Down on Corruption campaign. However, expediting the 2030 vision to make Durban Africa’s ‘most caring and liveable city’ would be laudable (why wait another 15 years?!).

Now what about enforcing ‘simple’ by-laws like not parking in restricted zones. The chaos and congestion outside Glenwood Woolworths (Helen Joseph Road – yellow line) is nothing short of a pain in the proverbial! Red lines please?
