No recycling bags for Glenwood

A Glenwood resident said she had heard DSW was no longer collecting recycled rubbish.

EDITOR – I was shocked to see that Durban was hosting the Sustainable Living Exhibition.

For months we residents in Glenwood have not been receiving the orange recycling bags for paper and plastic. I have no option but to throw the recycling matter in the black rubbish bags. It really upsets me to do this, but as I have a severe physical disability, I have no choice. An acquaintance of mine was told by a DSW collector that they no longer collect them.

We have tried every avenue we can think of, but still don't get the bags. Does the municipality really care about Durban, or is this just the usual lip service?

EThekwini Head of Communications, Tozi Mthethwa, responds:

“The Domestic Recycling Service has been in operation since 2007. Every three months each household receives a three month supply of bags. All enquiries on the bags can be directed to our Education and Waste Minimisation Office on 031 3031665 or kdbarec@durban.gov.za. The City apologises for any inconvenience caused and appeals to the resident to contact our office or provide us with his or her contact details so that we can make contact to resolve the problem.”
