Beachfront lacks police presence

Glenwood residents were shocked by the lack of enforcement by the few officers present at the beachfront.

EDITOR – Thank you for your article in the Berea Mail on Friday 16 October.

We walk every Saturday morning at 6am from the Wimpy (Joe Kool”s) to UShaka and back, and we have seen the disgusting behaviour that the the young people leave behind every week. Not only litter, broken glass, food packaging, human faeces etc.

Last Saturday, 10 October we took note of the following: 6am, one SAPS officer standing outside the charge office near Wimpy; No police either Metro or SAPS seen while we walked from Wimpy to uShaka; Two beach security officers sitting on the fencing watching the youth/taxis opposite Addington Hospital talking and ignoring the misbehaving youth. When we returned to Wimpy for our coffee, one SAPS policeman rode past on a golf cart.

We were at the beachfront for two hours and this is the only police presence that was seen.

I suggest that the mayor and the chief of police leave all their security behind and take a walk along the beachfront and see for themselves what we ratepayers have to put up with!
