Councillor needs to be hands-on

A resident feels the ward 33 councillor needs to walk among the people who live in the ward.

EDITOR – I refer to the letter from Mahmood in the 4 December paper and his criticism of the current councillor for our area with her lengthy justification in response.

‘The lady doth protest too much, methinks’. I recollect two serious incidents that occurred in this ward in recent months and were reported in your newspaper. In one she was quoted as saying she was deeply concerned and hoped it would be resolved as people need to be held accountable. In neither case did the councillor take the trouble to go out and meet the people directly involved, get first hand confirmation from them or do any kind of follow up on their problems?

In her own words ‘I have been very vocal in the media’. Yes indeed, we see photos of her standing beside an overgrown verge or dangerous intersection or derelict building and she is quick to defend herself in print but we ratepayers in her area would like to see less talk about and more walk about among the people who live here.
