EDITOR – The Democratic Alliance in eThekwini has written to the Mayor James Nxumalo requesting an urgent EXCO meeting to resolve the issue between the city and the bus operators in Durban.
It is disturbing that the problems between the Municipality and bus operators, spanning over six years, has yet to be resolved. We will no longer tolerate this total disregard of eThekwini citizens. It is high time that the operator is called in to state their side of the story so that this issue can be dealt with once and for all.
We know that the breakdown of trust between the operating company Tansnat and the city is why the drivers have not been paid their December salaries and bonuses.
We strongly believe a discussion between the two parties will help to solve the issue. It is concerning that the impact of the ANC infighting continues to rear its ugly head as this problem is the direct result of faction infighting within the governing party, all the while using state resources.
While we condemn the action by drivers interrupting the flow of traffic on the N3 and other areas in Durban last week, we believe that it is the lack of leadership from the City that has led to this chaos. We will continue to strive for a permanent solution.
