Make your own opportunities

A resident feels people need to stop complaining and start making opportunities for themselves.

EDITOR – Everyone is crying 'no jobs', but isn't it time we invented our own?

'No service delivery', 'no transport', and more, why doesn't someone with a bakkie work out how much petrol it will cost to get from Glenwood to Umbilo to the dump, and he could charge to take plastic, paper, cans, bottles, glass and even rubbish such as broken furniture and vegetation out of the area, while earning a bit of money.

I'm sure many people would willingly pay for such a service.

In Joburg a few years ago there was someone who, for a fee, would go to the Hypermarket for people who had no transport or couldn't go, for other reasons. They paid for the items and for the delivery fees.

Or what about a retired person with a car, giving a lift to someone without transport, to and from the shops, or a friend, or to some other venue. It would be cheaper than a taxi. I'm sure many would be happy to have such a service.

There are many things wrong or lacking these days. If people sat down and thought about it, I'm sure that they could come up with many ways to make money, legally, and start a small business. If the prices are reasonable, and the value is good, this area, then Durban, then South Africa, will soon be well on its way to be a wealthy, crime free, well-run, poverty-free place in this world.
