Public money used for party posters

Councillor Martin Meyer said the ANC is showing they do not understand the difference between party and state, and that in a democracy the two must be separated.

EDITOR – In Argyle Road COGTA (Department of Cooperative and Government and Traditional Affairs) put up three huge posters. These are official government posters paid for by the public.

These posters are yellow, green and, you guessed it – black. Sound familiar?

The first poster says: “We don't march for jobs”, a clear reference to the recent jobs march by the DA. The second poster one pole further then proudly (and wrongly) states: “We create them”. With the third poster urging people to register to vote.

Once again the ANC shows us that they just do not understand the difference between party and state, and that in a democracy the two must be separated. Once again the ANC shows that they are very happy to raid the public coffers to campaign for the elections for their party. Once again the ANC shows that the reason they can outspend every other party is because they have the keys to the treasury.

The ANC is also a bit loose with the facts in this campaign. The facts are under President Zuma we have lost more than 1.8 million jobs. So to have sneaky attack at the DA, who did march for jobs, will not work, as people know the facts.

The facts are that where the DA governs, unemployment is lower. The Western Cape has the lowest unemployment rate amongst the provinces.

In Gauteng the municipality with the lowest unemployment rate is Midvaal. And who governs Midvaal? You guessed it, the DA.

It is also ironic that they put up these posters in Ward 27, a ward where the ANC run municipality has made plans that will cost hundreds of people their lively hoods at The Stables. It is Ward 27 where wonderful new businesses in the Station Road precinct who are creating jobs are suffering due to the red tape from the city.

I call on the ANC to stop using public money to fund their campaign, as no one is fooled by the misinformation.

But as they will undoubtedly continue with this campaign, I call on the residents of Ward 27 to register, to vote, and in large numbers vote DA once again!
