EDITOR – I noticed that my February eThekwini Metro consolidated billing account did not include any electricity charges. This is the second time this has happened in the past 12 months.
You may want to warn your readers about this, especially those on fixed or low incomes as they may not budget for the charges when they get added on in later months. The first time it happened eThekwini told me it was because of the meter readings being delayed. I would have thought they could have just applied an estimated charge. It must also play havoc with the Metro’s cash flow.

EThekwini Municipality responds:
Tozi Mthethwa said: “As a caring City, eThekwini Municipality has a debt relief programme whereby residents and/or customers are encouraged to come forward and make arrangements to pay off their outstanding debt in terms of the Municipality’s credit control and debt collection policy. This can be done by visiting the nearest Sizakala Centre for further information.”
