A Durbanite wants answers from the mayor

A resident wants to know where medical waste which washed up on Durban's beaches came from.

EDITOR – An open letter to our Mayor:

Dear Mr Mayor,

If you have one thing on your mind today, then I expect it will be the fact that so much medical waste washed up on Durban’s beaches recently.

Terrible news for Durban and our tourism industry. Not that you didn’t have prior warning. Now those beaches will all be closed for three weeks we’re told, while your officials clean up.

It’s a serious business. And cleaning the beaches north of the Umgeni won’t solve the problem.

Please let us know:

Who dumped the toxic waste? Where did it come from? Why did this happen? (You are at the head of a world class city with a number of departments and hundreds of officials who are supposed to make it their life’s work to prevent this happening).

Why? Who? What? When? You’re not stupid, you’re the mayor.

And then what consequences will follow for those who allowed this to happen (inside and outside the municipality)?

We want names and consequences. I await your response.
