Help us build a wheelchair ramp

A resident is appealing to the community to help her build a wheelchair ramp for her disabled niece.

EDITOR – I’m writing in about my niece who is eight years old and disabled.

We live in a house with 40 steps going down to the house, and as my mother, who is 65, is her caregiver, she has to carry her up 40 stairs. Abigail, my niece, weighs 29kg, and my mom fell down the stairs and can’t use her left arm due to her elbow being smashed.

I’m writing in asking if anyone can fund or help us to build a ramp for the wheelchair as we don’t have funds for it. Abigail is disabled with rett syndrome, a rare genetic neurological and developmental disorder, which means she can’t walk at all and has to be carried up all those stairs.

If anyone can help, my contact number is 072 291 7950.
