Why do we stand for it?

Reader Mark Lowe, on the crushing blow suffered by the Springboks.

EDITOR – Madiba taught us to be a proud rugby people. A sporting country. A winning nation.

Tonight the All Blacks crucified us. They shamed us and they humiliated us. Again. Deservedly so.

It wasn’t even close. So let’s not pretend that it was. Let’s start by being honest with each other, even if our rugby administrators won’t be. And you thought that Danie Craven and Louis Luyt were dictators…?

Wherein lies the problem? SARB administration? Oregon Hosken? Jake White? A pathetic coach, way out of his depth but trying his best in Allistair Coetzee?

A national squad that simply doesn’t believe in itself any more – while the SARB Board members feast at the Ego and BEE table, and kow-tow to the (mealy mouthed) politicians like that former ANCYL chairman now minister of Sport – and let it all hang out?

Mandela would not have stood for this. Why do we?

Why do we let this national shame go on and on? Why, when we all know we are the best?

For shame.
