EDITOR – The DA has written to eThekwini’s Head of Human Settlements, Ms Beryl Khanyile, to request information on reasons behind the demolition of certain shacks in Kennedy Road informal settlement even though the department provided residents with building material.
The letter follows the DA’s visit to the area to inspect the destruction of residents' homes by the municipality. On arrival, the DA discovered that only shacks belonging to DA supporters were demolished and residents were shot at by the Metro Police and officials from the land invasion unit.
This is an indication of abuse of power by the ANC government who is punishing the people for electing a DA councillor in the area.
We will not allow people to be abused because of their current circumstances and their choice to vote for DA. South Africa belongs to everyone and no one should be punished for exercising their freedom of choice.
