Language barrier hampers conservation message

A reader feels the aquarium must develop a better communication method that has a variety of languages that align with public preferences.

EDITOR – The local aquarium’s role is to promote conservation awareness while at the same time educating the general public about conservation of sea species.

It has come to my attention that the aquarium has dismally failed to pass the conservation message because information that is presented to people is not that effective. A reason behind people not understanding the conservation message is because the language portrayed in display boards is not easy to read and understand, and the aquarium has not taken into consideration 11 official languages of South Africa.

This has resulted in the majority of people not understanding their existence due to a language barrier.

The aquarium must develop a better communication method that has a variety of languages that align with public preferences, which will better convey the conservation message.
