Happy ending for stranded schoolgirls

A reader warns parents to ensure their children don't need to rely on strangers to help them with transport home.

EDITOR – On 1 June I waited at Windermere Centre bus stop and noted that some four schoolgirls, aged about seven to 11 years, were waiting too.

However, they did not appear to be in a hurry to catch a bus. It transpired that they had spent their bus fare and were stranded. Eventually, two sympathetic ladies helped them out and saw them onto a bus. Regrettably, I did not recognise their school uniform.

As a great-grandfather, I appeal to parents and educators to warn children about having to rely on strangers to meet their transport needs. This incident had a happy ending but it could have been otherwise.
