Basketball players battle windy conditions
Glenwood High School and Maritzburg College basketball players had to contend with windy conditions in matches at the weekend.

GLENWOOD High School hosted Maritzburg College in a basketball tournament this past weekend. Six games were played, of which College won five. The games were played outdoors and all the players had to contend with very windy conditions which deteriorated during the day.
The U14B and U15A games saw Glenwood losing by substantial margins. The U14Bs lost 4 to 18 and the I15A lost 8 to 60. Glenwood’s other teams fared a little better.
Glenwood U14A went down 18 to 29 points, but the U16A only lost by 2 points in closing seconds of the game which ended Glenwood 20 to College 22. The Glenwood second team easily won their game against College’s second team. The final score was 27 to Glenwood and 14 to College.
The first team game saw Glenwood constantly playing catch up to College. Glenwood was only two points behind College at the end of the first quarter, but were six points down by the end of the second. They lost the match 30 points to 38, but it wasn’t for lack of effort.
Glenwood’s top scorer was Mpumelelo Mahlati with a total of 14 points. He has played first team since he was in Grade 9 and has represented South Africa at U16 level. College’s top scorer was Towane, also with 14 points for his team.
